Protein Shakes and Batteries Were Some of the Stars of Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days 

The average customer spent $27.90 on each item during Amazon's fall sales event, Numerator reported

Premier Protein Shakes, Amazon batteries and FireTV sticks were some of the hottest items purchased during Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days, which ran from Tuesday to Wednesday, consumer research group Numerator reported.

Other popular items purchased during the event were Liquid I.V. Hydration Packs and Energizer AA batteries, Numerator said.

Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days offered big discounts including 24% off AirPod Pros and 42% off a Roomba vacuum.

The overwhelming majority of shoppers, 95%, knew it was Amazon's fall sales event when they went on the site to shop, with 85% of customers noting it was the main reason they decided to shop, Numerator said.

Many Prime Big Deal Days customers were repeat shoppers at the retail giant's discount bonanzas, with 72% reporting that they also made purchases during the summer Prime Day event, which reported a record $12.7 billion in merchandise sold.

The shoppers at Amazon's fall event spent an average of $27.90 on each item they purchased, Numerator found. The average order size during the event was $53.47, which is less than what consumers spent during the retailer's summer Prime Day but up from what was spent during retailers at the fall event last year.

Numerator said the “typical observed” shopper during the event was a high-income, suburban woman between 35 and 44. 

Around 25% of customers purchased apparel and shoes, 23% bought home goods and 21% spent on household essentials. Categories that saw the lowest shopping levels were pet products, groceries and small appliances, which were bought by 12%, 11% and 10% of consumers, respectively. 

This data, which was collected from 31,607 unique buyers, is Numerator’s “early read” on the event and may be subject to change as more information comes in.
