Kylie Jenner Wants Her Makeup Brand Back
The pop-culture icon is reportedly in talks with Coty to buy back its 51% stake in 'Kylie Cosmetics'
Kylie Jenner wants to buy back the makeup line she sold to Coty in 2019, unnamed sources told Bloomberg.
The French-American beauty company bought a 51% stake in Jenner’s brand “Kylie Cosmetics” for $600 million, according to the company. Coty also owns brands from CoverGirl to Burberry as well as Kim Kardashian’s skincare line, SKNN.
Jenner continued to lead “creative efforts” after the sale to Coty. She started her brand as “Kylie Lip Kits” in 2015, selling packs of lip liner and lipstick for $29, but quickly turned it into a full-fledged makeup line with everything from eyeshadow to "body glow" and exfoliating face washes.
Jenner isn’t the only one in her family looking to take back their brands. Earlier this summer, her sister Kim Kardashian entered negotiations to buy back her own line which is partially owned by Coty, The Messenger previously reported.
Jenner and Coty have reportedly disagreed over the price and valuation of the company, people familiar with the deal told Bloomberg, though no figures were given.
Kylie Cosmetics experienced double-digit sales growth in the three months ended June 30, due to expanded distribution and new product launches, Coty said in its most recent earnings report, though the company doesn't provide specific numbers for its brands. Overall, the company said its revenues increased 16% in the fourth quarter and its operating income was $129 million.
Coty and Kylie Cosmetics did not immediately respond to The Messenger's request for comment.
