Banquet is recalling more than 245,000 pounds of chicken strips that may contain pieces of plastic.

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall Saturday.

Plastic contamination was discovered when a customer reported the problem to ConAgra Brands, Banquet’s parent company.

The complaining customer sustained “an oral injury associated with consumption of this product,” an FSIS statement said, although it did not elaborate.

The statement did not say when the problem was initially reported to the regulatory agency.

No other injuries have been reported, the agency said.

As a result of the initial report, ConAgra is recalling 8.9 ounce cartons of Banquet chicken strips produced in June and July.

The products — which are labeled “Banquet Chicken Strip Meal” — have packaging that says it “best if used by” Dec. 11, Jan. 1, or Jan. 7.

The three lot numbers on the products are 5009317120, 5009319220, or 5009319820. Those numbers are listed on the side of the carton.

Anyone who bought the strips is urged to throw them away.

The statement doesn’t say what caused the plastic contamination and a ConAgra spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
